Creates New CD & Musical Education Kit for Schools
Given the all-persuasions crowds drawn to her shows, Kate Reid is doing it for the ladies and everyone else with a yen for her fiery performances and rare ability to glide from laughaloud sing-alongs to intense tales about the price some pay in staying true to their own trailblazing sexual identities.
Reid was voted Favorite New Discovery of 2009 by Penguin Eggs Magazine (Canada's Folk, Roots and World magazine) critics, received a Canadian Folk Music Award nomination for Best New/Emerging Artist of the Year (2009), a Toronto Independent Music Award nomination for Best Acoustic Album (2010). In the interim she has toured like a flame-haired banshee while nurturing a grassroots audience that now stretches east across Canada and south into the U.S.
Kate's most recent project, the Queer Across Canada Musical-Education Kit is based on interviews she conducted with LGBTQ families across Canada and into the USA. This ground-breaking project is comprised of a 17-song CD accompanied by a teaching resource of exercises, activities and projects that use the songs to celebrate gender and sexually diverse people, families and communities while facilitating students' understanding of the harmful effects of heteronormative values and trans/homophobic bullying.
The Queer Across Canada Musical-Eduation Kit is suitable for elementary and secondary students and is linked to the Prescribed Learning Outcomes within the curriculum of the British Columbia Ministry of Education.
